Maybe “The Good Place” Will Get to a Good Place Soon

I really, really, really wanted to like NBCs “The Good Place.” It was one of the new shows I was looking forward to because it has a great cast (what’s not to like about a Kristen Bell/Ted Danson combo…it should be great right?!) and it is based around an afterlife I can get behind (Fro-Yo shops everywhere and no such thing as a hangover). That being said…something about it just doesn’t feel right.

After watching the first three episodes, I don’t know whether or not I like Bell’s Eleanor Shellstrop character yet and I feel like by now I should at least like her a little bit. I get that she is supposed to be a “bad person” in this heavenly setting, but I’m hoping she starts showing some redeeming qualities sooner rather than later.

Plus, I do like the Chidi Anagonye character (played by William Jackson Harper) and I’m hopeful that maybe we’ll learn more about the characters as the season goes on and that this show is just one giant case of things not being as perfect as they appear to be. If nothing else, maybe this will be a good show to watch when I don’t want to have to think too hard.
