5 Food Shows I’ve Been Devouring

I like food, and as a result I really like cooking shows. Sometimes I even convince myself that all these shows are really educational and if I watch enough of them, I’ll magically become an amateur chef. Sadly that has happened yet, but they have inspired me to get back into the kitchen and start learning the basics.

Here are five shows about food that I’ve been watching lately.

  1. The Big Family Cooking Show – An unofficial spinoff of sorts of The Great British Bake Off, this show has teams of 3 family members compete against other families every week in family related challenges. It’s incredibly comforting to watch families share traditional recipes and enjoying cooking together.
  2. The Great British Bake Off – A new classic, this show pits amateur bakers against each other in weekly challenges that cover every aspect of baking from breads to delicate french pastries. Everything about this show is incredibly sweet and kind compared to its American counterparts.
  3. Somebody Feed Phil and I’ll Have What Phil’s Having – Although these are technically two different shows but both are available on Netflix and share an almost identical premise. While this is by far the least technical or skill-based show on this list, I love Phil Rosenthal’s enthusiasm for food and travel. Bonus: Rosenthal was the creator, writer, and executive produce of Everybody Loves Raymond so if that was your jam back in the day, you need to watch these shows.
  4. Zumbo’s Just Desserts – An Australian baking competition where home bakers show off their creativity in the first challenge of each episode and then have to recreate one of host Adriano Zumbo’s crazy, imaginative, and sometimes gravity defying masterpieces. This is the show to watch if you’re looking for a little creative inspiration.
  5. Nailed It! – When all else fails, watch this short new Netflix show. It’s a baking challenge that has three not so great home bakers face off each week to see who can be the best of the worst. It’ll make you feel ten times better about your own kitchen/Pinterest fails.
