3 Ways to Up Your Coffee Game

I love coffee. I mean I really love coffee. I will drink almost any coffee, from anywhere, at any time of day (Ok I haven’t had to do midnight coffee since I finished grad school, but I would totally do it again if the situation called for it). Anyways, the point is I’ve tried a lot of coffee and I’ve come to realize that there are a few easy ways to put the kick back into your cup of joe.

Change the type of beans you use

The type of beans you use to brew that fresh pot every morning can make a huge difference in the taste of your coffee and your overall experience. You can mix up the type of roast you use (Light-Medium-Medium Dark- Dark) or choose beans that come from different places (Hawaii-Nicaragua-Peru-Columbia-Brazil-Ethiopia-Kenya-Indonesia).

Add or change the type of milk/creamer you use

Changing the type of milk or creamer you use can transform your cup from routine to a treat. Instead of reaching for the skim or 2% milk try using soy, coconut, almond, or cashew milk. Depending on which one you use, it will add a subtle sweetness or nutty taste that complements rather than overpowers the coffee.

Another option is to make your coffee Vietnamese style by adding sweetened condensed milk to your cup of coffee. The sweetened condensed milk provides the perfect amount of creaminess and sweetness and is a great option if you like your coffee on the bolder or stronger side. It’s also a nice way to treat yourself on a Saturday morning before you even leave the house.

Add a little something something

Lastly, you can elevate your coffee game by adding a few shakes or drops of your favorite sweets and treats. You can add spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, or salt), baking staples (mocha powder, agave nectar, honey, or vanilla extract), or sweet treats (marshmallows, chocolate chips, or whip cream).
